3D Animation Design

Since Smash or Trash creator Robert Long is getting back into the world of 3D animation and visual special effects for indie movies, he has posted some of his older work (1989 – 1995) up on youtube. Check it out and leave a comment! Click HERE or on the image above.

After Movie Diner

Anybody that has been around the site awhile knows that it is dedicated to the memory of filmmaker Don Dohler (1946 – 2006). Whenever I find other cool people out there that pay homage to my friend and mentor – well, I am going to post about it! THE AFTER MOVIE DINER is a really fun podcast, and in this instance they have a segment called “A Fistful of Dohlers” where those involved have a TON of fun talking about three of Don’s movies: Alien Factor, Fiend, and Blood Massacre. They covered Nightbeast in an earlier show, and they may be getting to Harvesters and Dead Hunt in later shows. Fantastic group of people and it’s a fantastic listening experience. You can get the the podcast by clicking the image above.

Hysteria Continues t-shirt

Our friends over at THE BODYCOUNT CONTINUES have an incredible podcast called THE HYSTERIA CONTINUES. I strongly urge everyone who loves slasher films (I do!) to check them out. To help pay for the bandwidth they have some really cool T-shirts, hoodies, and sleepwear sporting art designed by Smash or Trash creator Robert Long.

So check out a great horror website, a hilarious/informative podcast, and support them by buying some of their awesome custom apparel!

House of Sin

It’s movie review time! Judy Furlow has taken pen to paper (or keyboard to computer) and reviews the British sexploitation indie HOUSE OF SIN. Released by Chemical Burn Entertainment, it goes under the critique knife. Check it out HERE.

Garden of Hedon puzzle

Kevin Kangas (Kangas Kahn Films,LLC) has posted a teaser to his upcoming film “Garden of Hedon.” This is a deleted scene (six minutes!) That delves into some of the wild mind warps that happen in this palace of debauchery. Look for yours truly (Robert Long) in a small part! Click on the image above to go to the video.

 MALICE

Like the show “American Horror Story?” Then you will like MALICE. Produced by Phillip Cook, this modern haunted house web series stars Brittany Martz, Rebekkah Johnson, Mark Hyde, Leanna Chamish and Matthew James Gulbranson.  Coming January 15, 2012. Click on the image about to watch the trailer.

Happy 2012!

Smash or Trash computer

Well! Here we are in 2012. I am off sabbatical (it was good I went on one – I feel recharged) and am back to working on the site AND independent film projects. Pictured above is the Christmas/birthday gift I gave myself. I now have the means to REALLY kick some butt with the site as well as movie making. I hope this means the updates will be more frequent. There are a couple of things I’d like to do starting this year, and have a partial list:

1. Smash or Trash is now on twitter. Look us up under smashrtrashfilm and follow us about movie bits and site updates!

2. I hope to have a revamp of the site up sooner than later so videos, hot buttons and other things can be installed on the main page.

3. Now that I have editing software, let’s hope that Smash or Trash Television  gets more episodes made on a timely basis.

4. I want to look into doing podcasts for the site as well.

5. Yes, we will get some banner ads. It’s all about covering the site’s costs. Don’t forget to shop our store for cool Smash or Trash items! Every sale and donation helps keep the site going.

So, starting tonight I’ll be getting the updates going again. We have a couple of movie reviews by Joseph Henson and Judith Furlow – so that will come soon – along with a new contest! Stay tuned and let’s see Smash or Trash’s 4th year kick some major ass!

Don Dohler on the set of Dead Hunt

Today marks five years since the indie film community had its lost friend and mentor Don Dohler. With 11 horror/sci-fi films he was able to carve out a cult status for himself around the world. He helped start the careers of JJ Abrams, Tom Sullivan and Tom Savini. An award-winning documentary about him has been seen all over the planet. Not a bad track record for a man that started making movies in his backyard.

Don’s movies and the magazines he published were a tremendous influence to the Do-It-Yourself Indie Filmmaker, and hopefully by honoring his memory they will continue to do so. Rest in peace Don. Your fans, family and friends love and miss you.

Robert Long

Robert Long II

Welcome to a small update from Smash or trash Indie Filmmaking. Our intrepid leader (Robert Long) is still on sabbatical until the 1st of the new year, but he said it was cool to post about a few things in the works. It’s his birthday on the 14th so wish him a happy one!

Special effects artist and prop maker Brian Munger has been keeping busy in the San Francisco Bay area. He and his custom built Stormtrooper suite are appearing in the new Star Wars video game commercial. Brian is the Stormtrooper in all the scenes with a case and coffee. Click HERE.

Weird Al

Munger also has appeared live on stage as Darth Vader with Weird Al Yankovic.

Senior Cut Dat The Movie

Next on the list is that Corey William’s SENIOR CUT DAY has a brand new, action-packed TRAILER up. This looks to be along the lines of senior high school students meet up with backwoods heavies. This looks to be interesting. The movie has a premiere date of Thursday December 8, 2011 at the Landmark Theatres in Baltimore, MD. For tickets and information go HERE.

Ninjas vs Monsters

Endlight Entertainment was very successful with their Kickstarter campaign for NINJAS VS MONSTERS and it looks like production will start in the Spring. The third and final film of the trilogy has the ninjas going up against Dracula, Frankenstein, the Werewolf, the Mummy, and Witches. The premise sounds like a lot of fun. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.

George Stover as the bad guy

Lee Doll Film Productions are busy working on their second movie based on the character of THE FIXER. The main character will be played by actor Paul Seiber. Alfred Guy returns as Yeb-Beb and George Stover guest stars as the villain. Jeff Herberger has put together a trailer for the new movie that you can view HERE.

Ninjas vs Monsters

“Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Mummy, the Werewolf, and a swarm of classic monsters unite to take on the heroic Ninjas in a battle for the fate of the world. It’s going to be bloody, funny, heart-stopping fun as we bring the “Ninjas Vs” Trilogy to a close…”

Sounds like a cool premise for a movie – right? Well the guys and gals at Endlight Entertainment know what they are doing. They have already come out with the award-winning “Ninjas vs Zombies” and “Ninjas vs Vampires” and are looking to finish the trilogy with “Ninjas vs Monsters.” They need your help in order to do it!

They have an ambitious goal through kickstarter.com, and it is all within their reach. People can donate as little as $5 towards the movie. I donated at the $20 level, because that’s where the incentives get interesting! Click HERE to get the full info and details. As of today thre are only 6 days left on their fundraiser. Help these young filmmakers fulfill their trilogy dream – you will not be disappointed!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN from Smash or Trash!

From Smash or Trash creator Robert Long: “I probably will stay in the independent movie biz, as well as doing the show and the site. I am taking a couple of months off from it all, and will get back to it in January of 2012. Part of it is to get healthy, the other is I have other obligations (see the painting above) and such that need to be addressed. There will be some changes though. I only want to focus on the site, the show, and my indie projects. In order to get the time that means I have had to cut off working on other people’s projects. There is more to say but there is work to do. Email me if you would like details. Thank you for your continued interest and support.”

Garden of Hedon update

Filmmaker Kevin Kangas is busy in post production of his latest movie GARDEN OF HEDON. He plans to post a 5 minute segment of the movie on the web soon. I’m really looking forward to seeing the final product! I got his permission to post the photo of me taken on the set with the very scary dude from the movie. Stay tuned!
