IMDb Plot Summary: Suave swinger and womanizer Rex Romanski (Michael Reed) loves and leaves evil black magic priestess Rita Marie (Ruth Mahala Sullivan). Naturally, Rex incurs Rita’s lethal wrath by spurning her. Can Rex figure out a way to stop Rita’s subsequent rampage of revenge, murder, and destruction as well as reclaim the soul of his new porn starlet gal Amoreena Jones (Sarah Nicklin) before it’s too late?
Okay this is a pretty damn cool movie. Shot in Rhode Island it does a great job invoking the 1970s grind house films. Careful attention to the styles, music, fashions and decor was paid for what MUST have been a low budget (rumor is that the budget was $20,000).
The leads do a great job and are very game for all the nudity that will be required. Michael Reed kills it as Rex and is saddled with a decently convincing long-haired wig. His wife (Sarah Nicklin) has good on screen chemistry with him and they are very natural together during their love scenes. Ruth Mahala Sullivan does a fantastic job as the evil, vengeful Rita Marie. the secondary characters and dance extras do a terrific job as well.
The look of the film stock is incredible. Now I know some of it was actually shot on Super 8 film. I am not sure if the rest was shot on 16mm or digital with filters on top of it. Regardless of how it was achieved (and the film damage filter was done to superb effect) the whole thing turns out great. There is a porn shoot scene with a couple of great looking gals on roller-skates that is as hysterical as it is hot.
And there is a horror element to the story. Amoreena Jones gets cursed by Rita Marie and starts to go into possession trances. Solid black eyes, decaying skin and gore galore happens in some scenes.By the end of the movie a few gallons of the red stuff has splashed on the walls.
So it is for the most part a fun mixture of sex, horror and comedy. I do enjoy the homage to Saturday Night Fever that was thrown in too. Extras? Yeah, we got some good ones included. There is a deleted scene, a fun commentary track and some trailers.
FINAL RATING: 6/10 disco balls. Fun, Fun, Fun! Get together with some friends, some beer and pizza and watch this. You’ll have a blast!
