Some Obituaries

Richard Nelson

Actor George Stover sent me the sad news that actor Richard Nelson had passed away in the Fall of 2012. Nelson was in a couple of Don Dohler‘s films and is known for his part as Gary Kender in the movie FIEND. We at Smash or Trash send condolences to his family and friends.

Elvira long

Animal actress Elvira Long died on June 6th, 2013. Why are we posting this? Because she was my cat of 17 years and beloved by family and friends. She had a role in a movie called THE BONEYARD COLLECTION where she shared a scene with Tippi Hedren. Movie by Edward L. Plumb – check it out sometime. The film also has the likes of Kevin McCarthy, Cassandra Peterson, Robert Loggia, Barbara Steele, Brinke Stevens and many others, so my Elvira was in good company. Sleep well princess, you are missed.

Dohlerites

A little while back we had podcaster Jon Cross interviewed on the site for being a hardcore Don Dohler fan, so we could find out what it was that he loved about Don’s films. Well now he is joined by fellow New York City Dohlerite and they talk all things Dohler and their love for the newer Timewarp Films movies. You can find that at this link HERE.

Wow! Can you believe it’s been over three years since I did the first Smash or Trash Independent Filmmaking Television episode? Where has the time gone? Of course we talked about the Timewarp Films’ sci-fi/horror movie, and what the status of it was. Well, then – three years ago – we heard that “It’ll get done when it gets done.” 2013 marks the 10 year anniversary of this production since it started, so this would be a really good time to get this done and finally put it to bed. It is truly heart-breaking that both producer Doh Dohler and actor Don Leifert are no longer with us; it would have been great for them to see the finished product. However, hopefully we will have something very soon for their friends, family and fans can check out some of these two talented gentlemen’s last work. I can tell you that this Memorial Day weekend I will be working very, very hard to get editing done on CRAWLER. With hard work, focus, persistance and a little luck – maybe we can have a world premiere this year!

Stay creative!

kahn hedon

Independent filmmaker Kevin Kangas is an innovative and prolific person in the industry for the last 14 years.  Five very well received movies, He is now doing something… INCREDIBLE. He has a feature length film completed – GARDEN OF HEDON. He is doing a Kickstarter campaign where as if he meets his goal – he will release this new movie in both DVD and Blu-ray quality – for FREE. That’s right – FREE. He’s trying to raise money for his next motion picture, so he is willing to put up this fantastic movie for everyone on the planet to see if the goal is met. This is really ballsy. I’ve done enough talking here so click HERE or on the image above and go to find out how we can all help accomplish this. I mean, you can donate as low as a dollar for Pete’s sake. Of course if you donate more – you get a change of getting some really cool props and perks! So anyway – what are you waiting for? Go over there and help make this happen!

Actress Sara Cole (DEAD HUNT and other fine indie films) recently got married to the love of her life, Dan Pittore. We at Smash or Trash want to wish them both a happy long life together. Both Sara and Dan were producers on John Kinhart’s documentary on Don Dohler called BLOOD, BOOBS & BEAST. Congrats!!!

Hugh Robertson’s review of FUTURE WORLD got a much needed overhaul. Bigger type and larger, better pictures. This is an interesting read as it appears that this ambitious film is somewhat of a live action version of the movie HEAVY METAL. You can read the updated review HERE.

Philip Cooke’s MALICE episode 12 is now up on Youtube. You really, really need to follow this creepy series and watch this incredible season finale. Oh – look close at the end and you will see a cameo by me. Leanna Chamish makes a triumphant return to the story!

Filmmakers Chris LaMartina and Jimmy George are back in the news again! These gentlemen are extremely prolific in getting quality genre movies out to the public. Their humor/horror fest of fun WITCH’S BREW is available at this AMAZON LINK. It is a tale of a couple of micro brewers who insult a witch, and she in turn curses their beer. Anyone that drinks the liquor, dies in the most bizarre of ways.

Presidents Day poster

And the last several months we have heard a lot about the beloved President Lincoln. Television specials, a vampire movie, and a major motion picture. What could top all of that? Ha ha! Glad you asked. How about a slasher film with a killer dressed like Lincoln in it? This brings us to PRESIDENT’S DAY. This is another gem from the team of Chris LaMartina and Jimmy George, and stars Shawn C Phillips, George Stover, Jesse Layne, and  Ruby Larocca. This title is set up for pre-order through Amazon, and will be available  in April of 2013. The link for the pre ordering is HERE.

CRAWLER action shot

I have renewed my vigor at getting more of the special visual effects for the Timewarp Films sci-fi horror movie CRAWLER. This year marks 10 years it has been in and out of production and we hope to get it finished by the Fall of 2013. Because of this I am going to be devoting a chunk of time every weekend until the effects I have promised to do are done. Above is one of the shots completed last weekend. I know a lot of people are really looking forward to seeing this all cut together!
